Detectives are investigating an apparent death by suicide of an inmate in the Clay County Detention Center on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The victim is 41-year-old Donje E. Lambie, a white female whose last known address was in Overland Park, Kan. She was serving a 30-day sentence on North Kansas City municipal charges.

Detention Center staff had last checked on Ms. Lambie and the other inmates in her dayroom about 40 minutes before her fellow inmates alerted staff that Ms. Lambie was unresponsive in her cell. Detention officers and deputies, as well as the jail’s contracted medical care providers, performed CPR and attempted to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) to revive Ms. Lambie, but she could not be resuscitated.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s Investigations Unit is reviewing the incident.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office makes every effort to ensure the safety of inmates, to include providing 40 hours of in-house mental health care weekly.
